Week Thirteen

Dear Harri,

Finally home! Though it's been longer for you , don't know how you did it ! I was so ready to come home and you will not believe the trauma of getting home.. I'll explain in a sec! Also I can't believe you watched It's a Wonderful Life (can I borrow it please haha?!). I'd never heard of it and everyone was going on about it in bham but we never watched it !

So Friday , the last day , and being all mean we were in till 5 , grrr. But we did however have a free four hours in the middle of the day and so I went back to Vicky, someone in my m group's flat with Becky and Josie and watched Love Actually for the consecutive day and the third time in the month! For some reason the subtitles weren't on, so we just made up what they were saying :) and then at the end looked up clips of Colin Firth diving into the lake in Pride and Prejudice.

Throughout the day my mum would call to discuss how I was going home. We couldn't decide whether it was going to snow and whether I should come home with limited stuff on the train that evening, or if my dad would drive up the next day. But staying did mean I got hit gatecrasher one last time and this time with skittle vodka :)! Which was meant to not taste of vodka.. but really did! So after a quick pre-lash at my flat , we met up with some medics in the car park before heading down in the freezing collld to an empty gatecrasher :O. However it soon filled up and we danced the night away well until two or something! Hafsah had made me promise to come back and see her as everyone else in her flat had gone home.

So i slept there and then in the morning headed back to my flat to tidy up having been woken up by my mum at 8.30 to say my dad had just left. Looking out the window I was a bit worried because it was snowing quite badly but thought it'd be fine!

My Dad arrived about four hours later (it should take two). And we packed everything into the car, I had seven bags in total ! It took us about 6 and a half hours to get home! My Dad has snow chains, which are brilliant when there's lots of snow, but then all the other cars can't move anywhere and go about 2mph if that! And then when the snow clears you aren't meant to have them on so you have to go really sloww . We did have a rather dangerous encounter, and so they went on rather early on , but in the long run probably slowed us down! But anyway we finally got home around eight, having worked out that if my dad had gone in the opposite direction he could have made it to the alps! Tbh I pretty much crashed when I got home, I tried to watch some tv but ended up in bed !

Sunday , I think I just had an easy day at home! Monday, I headed to Alex's before going to the dentist and then went to the Gorton's in the evening. I headed home pretty early as I wasn't feeling too great, but stopped in on Katie on the way home with Dougie.

Yesterday I headed to Wycombe with Alex to buy some last minute presents, and I think I am pretty much sorted for christmas now ! Then I came home and started on the revision, basically as payment for not doing any work this term, I'm going to have to work my butt off this christmas. Today was much the same and thinking of revsing later (though you should come!)

So I'll see you soonn
Merry Christmas if I don't see you before !

Week Twelve

Dear Harri,

Oh dear, late again! I think I'm becoming Ellie as recently I've just become late in life for everything .. not good ! The film trailer looked hilarious.. I like the interactiveness Harri ;). Might see what I can do over next couple of weeks!

On Friday of last week was our big assessed presentation (when I say big .. like 2% of whole thing but it felt big at the time..). And our group wanting to get a bit of an edge, so we thought we'd go in look of an epidural needle as a visual prop and any extra info. So we went to the women's hospital and managed to blag our way into the delivery suite. All the time with me saying 'we shouldn't be here, we should go back' like a proper wimp. But we managed to get to reception there and asked if we could speak to an anaesthetist. It turned out Tim, a registrar anaesthetist was just about to start his lunch break and so we were lead to the anaesthetists room and given tea. Gradually more and more people came in for their lunch break and all started inputting on what was being said and so we ended up staying for an hour! Thursday was IP day and there was again a 'banter group' , so we had to close our eyes as we were lead from a hot beach, through a candy cane forest to santa's grotto and when we opened our eyes our of our m group was there dressed as santa !

On Saturday was our Christmas meal! Louise who is this amazing amazing person who cooked for us :), organised everything. We dressed up all nice and ate so much that I did go and put on trackies afterwards! We opened our secret santas and I got Forest Gump and 50 first dates dvds:). I then went off to this music concert, mainly for the mince pies and carols at the end , but it was really good and the christmas spirit was definitely around!

This week's been pretty good , had my latest start on monday, 2 :), and the whole day off today! I went shopping on both, monday only to tesco but I bought some christmas presents there. Then today I went to the German Christmas Market and Bull ring. Then to tesco again as its the beeches medics Christmas meal tonight and we bought all the food. We are having christmas chicken ! In fact I went to Tesco last night as well. We were planning to go to the carol concert in a place called Selly Oak but the train was cancelled and the next was delayed. So we decided Christmas film and ice cream was an equally good option! So we headed round to Lizzie's flat and watched Notting Hill, but ended up chatting about housing issues and various other things most of the way through so I still can't say I've properly watched it. Then I quickly popped in on Hafsah, (her room was disgusting though), before heading to bed.

Hope you had a good night last night !
See you soon

Week Eleven

Dear Harri,

Sorry I never put last weeks on your facebook, hope you found it ! I can't even remember why i didn't .. absolute fail! This week has been pretty laid back, though I've only got from friday to write so I'm afraid I may not be able to think of things to say!

Friday was a nine o'clock start however the lecturer was stuck in snow so it was cancelled and rescheduled for 5 till 6 that evening.. not happy. But after I went into the Bullring and did some shopping :), I was trying to find a usb stick for my secret Santa and I could honestly not find one anywhere! However I did find some other Christmas presents so it's not a bad thing. I met Alex at new street station and after a slight detour to bhs we went home. We were both literally shattered and I had stupidly left the window open and so had a freezing room, so we had a rest in the kitchen, cooked dinner and just relaxed. Saturday, the plan was to do loads of work, go to the German Christmas market and maybe go shopping again, but we really couldn't be bothered in the end. Because it gets dark at four and we only got up around 12 it doesn't leave long to actually do much. Sunday managed to be a more productive day! I had a netball match, luckily only half hour as I think I would have collapsed after much more.. Then we came back and did some cleaning as it was my flat inspection the next day. Having still not gone shopping at around eight we set out to tescos but it was closed ! So on the off chance we walked along to the sainsburies praying it would be open and it was. So I have now sworn to never use tesco again and that I love sainsburies! Came back with indian ready meals for most of my flat and had the ultimate hot chocolate (what it called it in my cookbook), that wasn't so ultimate. .

Monday was another long day with BLS after lectures. Sha came back for hot chocolate (but not ultimate this time). Everyone was at the start of the day going to go out to oceana but one by one everyone decided not .. too cold being the main reason, so it ended up just being two who went, but we all watched the pre-drinking!

Today has been an alright day with the main highlight being free cake as bribery to make us go to a complementary lecture. I am now about to begin on work for a presentation on Friday, trying to put it off really..

Hope you're well see you sooon

Week Ten

Dear Harri,

It's getting so close to Christmas I can almost feel it :). Though I haven't got my advent calender, true student style I'm waiting for them to go down in price ! But one thing this does mean is seeing you and everyone very soon!

Wednesday I finished at eleven, and then went to pick up some vegetables from the market in the university as I had planned to make a vegetable pasta heaven for my flat this evening. What I didn't realised is that when it said served six what it really meant was served sixty million! And so I have had a mahusive box of pasta in my fridge until today when I came to the decision it was time to throw it all away..

Next day was boring, except one of the groups in my m group had researched relaxation methods in the day, so at the end of the day we all had a deep muscle relaxation session. Then I had a meeting with my personal mentor, pretty routine and then got the train home!

Friday we finished off at 12 and I headed of home, and home home! Got the train with Kaveri, and it took like an hour because we went to watford . Over the week I got to catch up with quite a lot of people as it seemed a lot were home, watched love actually (officially christmas now) and tried to watch paranormal activity but absolutely failed, no jokes I'm a wimp. My mum was really spoiling me all weekend, breakfast in bed, and I had not eaten that well for soo long!

So Sunday, me, Kate and Kav all set off home, but Katie decided we were ordering takeaway so we all went round and then started watching a bit of bring it on two. The this week, Monday and Tuesday were absolute bliss, eleven o'clock starts and the Wednesday finished by eleven as well. Monday was basic life support again and Tuesday was medsoc Christmas social at a place called blu bar, and I managed to make it to the end this time, and then came back to my flat with Sneha and Harriet for toast. Wednesday I had some beeches medics round for dinner and managed to make shepards pie, however, i started a bit late so we didn't eat till around 9.30, but we managed to squeeze in ice cream and another quick sesh of articulate. Now today !! GP and the highlight was maybe seeing acupuncture done, which wasn't very pleasant but interesting all the rest. I've come home cooked dinner, toad in the hole tonight, and then watched misfits for the first time,, it's pretty good actually !

Night, and hope you're well missy

Week Nine

Dear Harri,

Thanks for your birthday blog :), I totally don't feel nineteen! In fact I had to fill in this form for something (oh yeah, it was a survey for when I went to see Harry Potter) and I ticked the 15-17 age bracket by mistake!

So Wednesday for some stupid reason I went in to the lectures in the morning and sat there feeling crap for the whole morning while most other people skipped it! The person who's birthday it was the day before didn't make it in the whole day :O! I stayed in to practice our presentation, and then went home around fiveish (which is late for a wednesday). It was already dark and as everyone had already gone home I ended up staggering home on my own and created all these horrible scenarios in my head. Such a woss!

Thursday was gp day, which is getting more into routine now. We got to do reflexes where you hit each other's knee. Just watching the guys crossing their legs was really funny, I don't know why and don't think they did either :p. I managed to resist buying anything at sainsburies :), apart from skittles. Then I came home cooked for my flat and then went out and had more lasagne at a different flat as someone was cooking for their birthday. We played articulate after, which as we know is a very fun game ;). We have to have another really good new years this year btw :). However my team did end up being half the board behind everyone :S, we blamed the long day.

Friday, well there was something different about that day .. :). I had a presentation in the morning and anatomy till 6 but once I got home then my birthday really got going. They made me go and play wii with chris, then come back for dinner and then go back to flat 37 for them to give me a card, and all this time I didn't catch on! When I came back they had decorated the lounge with balloons and confetti, and made some really tasty punch! We played pass the parcel, with a really interesting present inside, and had those candles that didn't go out! And managed to spill about 5 drinks and break a glass over the night ! It was a really nice night with everyone and we ended by watching harry potter 6 before falling asleep.

Saturday, woke up pretty late, Kav had slept over so found her on my floor haha. Went over to Katie's later on and watched Harry potter 1, then had takeaway with her and Kav before meeting up with everyone else to go see Harry Potter 7. It was sooo good, best Harry Potter so far! And I had to hide behind my jumper at points. We came back and I did my laundry which was in desperate need because I was running out of pants.

Sunday my parent's came up and we went for a meal and caught up. It was really strange seeing them up here! They brought me up so much food.. and mainly chocolate which completely ruined my healthy diet I had going.

The last two days have been back to the long slog which is so disheartening. I stayed in from 10 till 9.30 yesterday because I had basic life support after lectures. Then today was in 10 till 8 because I had an anatomy revision which admittedly was really useful, as I feel slightly more confident on one aspect of my course now! I did get free curry today though from the Sikh society.

Hope you are well!
See you soonish

Week Seven and Eight

Dear Harri,

Sorry I missed last week, you're right once you miss you're chance it just doesn't happen! But I'll try and remember what happened! So Thursday two weeks ago, was an IP day, I was researching basically anything and everything as we were the last people to get a question and was basically anything people could think of. So I spent most my time looking at how much doctor's get paid haha. (I didn't think of that question alright :P) ! We had lunch in the medcafe and it's really bad but I've got in the habit of buying this millionare shortbread things.. but that aren't actually and are just chemical substitutes ! Thursday was Vale Fireworks and Georgie was saying with Louisa, so we all went to see her and then went back to Kav's for catch ups! Then we literally ran back to the beeches, quickly got changed and headed to oceana. I actually managed to make it to the end of the night and then walked back to the beeches .. a good twenty minutes, especially when we walked all the way to a chippy that wasn't open!

Friday I came home in my four hour break and ended up sleeping it all,, going back in for anatomy was not fun! And from once I was home from friday evening study club began! Which was basically working non-stop for my test on Monday.. So not much to share there :P.

Monday morning was alrigght, after the test we hit the bullring although I only bought a skirt , the same one as two of the other people with me bought , so we are matching! Then came back and watched the apprentice with cake. Then it was oceana , but this time it was pretty dead and I came home pretty early.

Tuesday was the introduction to my SSC (student selected component) and basically free weeeekkk :). Alex came that afternoon and basically just relaxed that evening and all of wednesday and thursday. Ridiculously late lie-ins , watched part of ray the film, ate so much, went to tescos and then onto the bullring literally the only time we went out ! On friday was presentation day but went fine pretty well and then went out to gatecrashers :). Was quite quiet compared to normal! but had some different songs, and my fob stopped working so had to climb over the gates to my halls tipsy to get back in. Saturday again, just made some disgusting cake, the mistake was putting jelly babies in, but we ate it anyway and also watched zombieland at flat 37 which was pretty good. Sunday Alex left so felt really weird my room being so quiet but got some work done. Monday and Tuesday have gone well , it was Abi a girl from my m groups birthday tonight , so just got back in from a gay bar DV8 . However it was straight tuesdays don't worry!!

And so thats my weeks
Hope you are good.
I love you and 48 days now till you're back :)

Week Six

Dear Harri,

It seems crazy to think we are now more than half way through this term! I have started calling this place home and then always take it back and secretly think I can't betray Chalfont! But I don't miss being at home that much just the people I think. Crazy how different lives everyone has right now!

Thursday was my second day at the GP and we went a different way which was so much better and didnt involve forking out for a massive taxi ride. These really are my favourite days, and so much more interesting than lectures. We did a presentation Richard and Judy style and ours had some terrible terrible jokes which we went through with , it was so cringe! And attacking people by sticking my finger in their arm to feel their pulse over the last weeks had paid off, as taking blood pressure didn't feel so hard in the end. I did my week shop at lunch or so I thought .. I have been back to the shops since quite a few times. I just eat so much here, absolutely no hope for losing weight!

Friday was an amazing day, 11 til 3, so good! In the evening I went to Medbar with some medics from the Beeches. It was karaoke night , and some songs were absolutely hilarious. Saturday was work day, with a trip to tesco in the middle. Then went round to Katie's flat and played circle of death , and they enjoyed making be the one to drink at every 'drink on you' which just sent me really sleep tbh! Sunday I wasn't planning on going out and just went round to someone from my course's flat for a halloween party but ended up hitting gatecrasher, we managed to get in for free as well as some lovely man gave us tickets :). I was harry potter but there were some absolutely amazing costumes! I ended up having to pull up some unconscious drunk girls knickers in the loo because the bouncer couldn't go near as a man or something , so that was a bit of drama haha!

Monday was such an effort an amazing long day and I literally wrote about 5 sentences on the last lecture. Tuesday wasn't as bad , then went back to Kav's and got some really good work in before netball. On the way back I stopped in at Hafsah's flat and ended up sleeping over, then having to run over to my flat at nine this morning!

Today's been good, it was the birthday of Sarah a medic at the beeches. Though I felt so guilty because it completely passed my mind in the morning but we went over to her's for dinner just now. Had the most amazing fajitas and then brownies and ice cream. I apologise about how much of these letters are about food!

Hope you're well
Lot's of love
We need to meet across a room soon!

Week Five

Dear Harri,

Another week and the stress levels have gone up! Most of the med school life is spent worrying with the other first years. We have now been told of our first assessment a week on Monday and I can't decide how worried I should be. I go through fluctuations of wanting to drop out the course to thinking that it's going to be a breeze, which it clearly isn't, need to find the right balance!

Wednesday was Carnage which was a lot of fun, though it was meant to start at 6.30 , us being us only got there at 10. So we only actually got into two clubs, well other people three.. but I got refused from one .. the cheek!! We were to wear purple for our halls and again had the classic write on t-shirt. It was a pretty good night but we came back pretty early, we got a taxi back it was too cold to walk!

I can't even remember Thursday sorry! Friday Alex came up again and we all went out to Gatecrasher, it is absolutely massive we didn't even go on the main dancefloor but spent our time in the side rooms. I had a really nice drink I'd never had before, disaronno and coke , try it , it's so good! The next morning I don't think we got out of bed til 3 and then managed to make it down to the shops buy some cake ingredients before making dinner and then cake in a mug! We melted galaxy and mint aeros into it, which was really tasty though it did overflow the mug not looking so appetising. Sunday we got up slightly earlier, and did a bit of work. Then in the evening we all went to see Vampire Sucks, which was well... alright. Hafsah was more stronger of her opinions saying it was 'shit' and the 'worst film she'd ever seen' straight out haha! Made more cake in a mugs and also had icecream when we got back!

Monday and Tuesday were both quite long days at uni. Tuesday Alex left and my family went on holiday without me..kind of strange that I'm not involved ! I had a meeting with my personal mentor and then came home made dinner from 10p noodles and watched that new show with Davina Macall in flat 37.

That's pretty much my week ,
Hope you're well

Much Love

Week Four

Dear Harri,

Now as I've begun to settle into the routine of life here, it's really hard to differentiate the days! On the Thursday was my first GP placement and so out came my smart black trousers. We went in groups of fours, luckily I already knew one of my group from my M group. To get there it involved getting a train to New Street then from there to Dudley Port and then a taxi, which took about an hour and a bit in total. Having been a bit nervous before it was actually a really fun, interesting day. I wanted to just sit listening to the doctor's appointments for hours. We got to practice measuring blood pressure, however me and Abi both failed initially as we couldn't find each others pulse! Also rather helpfully there is a massive sainsburies right by GP, you actually have to drive through Sainsburies car park to get to the practice!

I went home for the weekend to see the family. On the train home I happened to sit next to someone going to Beaconsfield, such a small world, so had company for the journey :). It was really nice getting home, seeing everyone and not actually doing anything. I had the biggest lie in in the morning, did some work, and saw Alex in the evening. The next day I stocked up on food in tescos and got the train back with Kav. It was packed and so we at times resorted to sitting on the floor to do some work!

Monday was one of the longest days of my life ! 9 til 6 and it just dragged on and on. However there were elections for reps during the day, and I thought these would be pretty boring.. they really weren't! Some of the speeches were incredible in a rather different way ! I came back to Nathan's spaghetti bolognese in my flat and then went over to 37 to see the lot. Tuesday was a slightly less long day but I also had netball in the evening. However on the way home, error, we were at our station waiting for the doors to open to get off the train and it just drove off ! It turns out you have to press the open doors button! So we had to go to the next station and wait for the next train to come back.

What else has happened this week.. We had paper aeroplane competitions which got very competitive. My flatmate Ben and 37ner Chris got in the news for the protest for tuition fees( though that may have happened last week I can't remember!). It has suddenly become freezing!

Right well it's my turn to make dinner today and it's our carnage this evening, which starts at 6.30, so I reckon I'll need to start cooking soon and also need to have a tidy up round here.

Hope all's well, and see you soon(ish)

Lot's of Love

Week 3

Dear Harri,

Wow yes this week has definitely gone the quickest and it's all starting to turn to a blur ! The routine is starting to set down, and unfortunately includes a lot of nine o clock starts, which cuts down on the partying a lot. I haven't been out since last wednesday, shocking really for a uni student ! Wednesday was risa again, school girl themed though this time. On Thursday it was our day where we make a presentation for the rest of our group, which was actually a lot of fun and I got to know some of my group members better. In the evening I spent time facebook stalking with Hafsah and Jason, as Hafsah hasn't got facebook and she found stalking hilarious !

I was so thankful for Friday after a pretty long week, and Alex came up for the weekend. It was my turn to cook so we made stir fry , I'm certainly learning a lot of culinary skills here I never knew before. On Saturday disaster struck which I'm sure I'll tell you about but not on here haha! However it was still a good day , lie in until about two and then we just went to tescos for food. In the evening we watched Anchorman, which is meant to be really funny, it was quite good but think I was a bit sleepy to appreciate the jokes.

On Sunday I realised I had better do some work, and so wikipediad most of the sheets I had to do. We also went into the Bullring for a general look around and then returned to find the Flat across from us were going out for a meal so we joined them. However, the place with the £5 roast dinner was full, and so was about every other restaurant there, and so about an hour and a half later we returned without food and ordered a takeaway. We ordered four sixteen inch pizzas and so stuffed our faces with loads left.

Monday , uni again , luckily a ten o'clock start which believe me makes such a difference. In the evening we went to Nandos as Alex was leaving on the next morning. Tuesday was such a hectic day, 10 til 6 and then I went to Kav's where she made an awesome curry for me and I met some of her flat mates. Then onto Netball which is packed but I found a Beeches buddy to walk back with which is good as I didn't really want to walk back from the station in the dark.

Now I've had a half day where I have managed to do no work even though I've been here for four hours ! Productive huh

Well, hope you are having an awesome time

Week 2

Dear Harri,

I have just returned from lectures , at the earliest yet so far! From Tuesday to Friday last week we had lectures at nine, which didn't go so well seeing as there was a fresher's event almost every night. I can hardly remember what they were about, but just that it was a major effort to keep my eyes open! We also met our M groups , which is a group of 18 of us that work together on discussions and problem sort of things. They were so much better than lectures and we actually got to meet others doing the course. There's 400 of us though, so it's quite overwhelming!

The last two days have been pretty chaotic! Monday was a 9 til 6 day and then I met people from my flat and the flat across from me at Joe's Bar to go to a free salsa trial. I really enjoyed it, but I haven't decided whether to go back yet. Then on Tuesday after finishing at 3 I went back to Kav's and we tried to register at the Doctor's and go shopping but managed to get incredibly lost, and left Katie waiting on a cold stone(she didn't let us forget this :p) ! We had some iceland macaroni cheese and you'll never guess.. Angel Delight that worked! After that, we went on to the Medic's netball trials, where we played a couple of five minute matches. So by the time I got back it was around ten and everyone was just about to go out to a club called Bambu, but Hafsah wasn't feeling too great so I popped around and we watched a program called Signfield or something!

On Saturday we went on a trip to the Bullring but as measly students we just bought cookies and came back. On Sunday it was a medic's day out, which was on a riverboat. The drinking games started sober on the way over so that once we were on the boat we all knew what we were doing and so we spent most of the three hours on the boat playing these and dancing on the top deck. We then came back and went to revs! where we had been promised a buffet, however it really wasn't enough food to feed all of us so I came home and had a cold jacket potato as our microwave doesn't work too well..

So this afternoon I'm just going to take it easy, do the laundry that I haven't done yet, and maybe do a harri-style nap in the hope I might feel like going out this evening.. but we'll see.

Hope you're well
Lot's of love

First letter

Dear Harri,

Thanks I loved your letter , glad to hear you're having a good time . I'm sorry this is a little late, until coming to uni I didn't really feel I had much to say! I left on Saturday midday and gradually became more and more nervous over the journey as we got closer, so much that I was wishing my mum would drive slower so I'd have more time to prepare myself hah. But we arrived and I was pretty quickly given a key and somehow in my flat that is this year's home. I'm staying at The Beeches , which is private accommodation about 30 minutes from the uni. I then got the chance to properly meet my flatmates over doing the inventory for my flat. There's five of us, Nathan and Lucy 2, who are second years, and me, Ben and Lucy 1 who are first years. We spent the night in , two girls called Rosie and Hafsah (Jim) from another flat came round , and we had a pretty early night.

Sunday morning, we had a pretty long lie in and all apart from Lucy 2 took a walk into the uni to have a look around . We had a look around the guild and then went to a Joe's bar, and sat there for a while. For some reason we were all pretty shattered and so sleepily trudged back again ! I came back and had a nap ready for the car park party which was happening at 7. There was some cider on offer so had a couple of them and somehow managed to land some punch that had run out as well( only just remembered that actually). I wanted to find some medics from Beeches and success! I managed to find three , and one dentist who will be so happy to be mentioned here! We were told at 10 that there was to be no noise and to go back inside ,so got changed and went back out to a club called Risa which is about 15 minutes walk away.

On Monday , I met up with Katie and Kav and we headed to the Fresher's Fair where we bagged some free pizza and way too many leaflets , and then went on to Joe's Bar , where we were sold paintballing tickets by this insane salesman! Nathan cooked us spag bol for dinner and we formed a wine glass orchestra, yes way to easily amused. We then headed to the flat across from us to be neoned up for the uv party which was at the guild.

After 4 hours sleep, I woke up for my first day at med school. I met one of my 'mums' and my 'sister' . We were shown around and given a chance to ask questions before heading on to our tutorial groups. It's a group of 17 of us , so will probably take a while to get to know everyone, but looking forward to it. I managed to get lost on the way home but have now arrived and am snuggled up in bed writing this :).

Hope you're well and talk soon
