Week Five

Dear Harri,

Another week and the stress levels have gone up! Most of the med school life is spent worrying with the other first years. We have now been told of our first assessment a week on Monday and I can't decide how worried I should be. I go through fluctuations of wanting to drop out the course to thinking that it's going to be a breeze, which it clearly isn't, need to find the right balance!

Wednesday was Carnage which was a lot of fun, though it was meant to start at 6.30 , us being us only got there at 10. So we only actually got into two clubs, well other people three.. but I got refused from one .. the cheek!! We were to wear purple for our halls and again had the classic write on t-shirt. It was a pretty good night but we came back pretty early, we got a taxi back it was too cold to walk!

I can't even remember Thursday sorry! Friday Alex came up again and we all went out to Gatecrasher, it is absolutely massive we didn't even go on the main dancefloor but spent our time in the side rooms. I had a really nice drink I'd never had before, disaronno and coke , try it , it's so good! The next morning I don't think we got out of bed til 3 and then managed to make it down to the shops buy some cake ingredients before making dinner and then cake in a mug! We melted galaxy and mint aeros into it, which was really tasty though it did overflow the mug not looking so appetising. Sunday we got up slightly earlier, and did a bit of work. Then in the evening we all went to see Vampire Sucks, which was well... alright. Hafsah was more stronger of her opinions saying it was 'shit' and the 'worst film she'd ever seen' straight out haha! Made more cake in a mugs and also had icecream when we got back!

Monday and Tuesday were both quite long days at uni. Tuesday Alex left and my family went on holiday without me..kind of strange that I'm not involved ! I had a meeting with my personal mentor and then came home made dinner from 10p noodles and watched that new show with Davina Macall in flat 37.

That's pretty much my week ,
Hope you're well

Much Love
Jenny

Week Four

Dear Harri,

Now as I've begun to settle into the routine of life here, it's really hard to differentiate the days! On the Thursday was my first GP placement and so out came my smart black trousers. We went in groups of fours, luckily I already knew one of my group from my M group. To get there it involved getting a train to New Street then from there to Dudley Port and then a taxi, which took about an hour and a bit in total. Having been a bit nervous before it was actually a really fun, interesting day. I wanted to just sit listening to the doctor's appointments for hours. We got to practice measuring blood pressure, however me and Abi both failed initially as we couldn't find each others pulse! Also rather helpfully there is a massive sainsburies right by GP, you actually have to drive through Sainsburies car park to get to the practice!

I went home for the weekend to see the family. On the train home I happened to sit next to someone going to Beaconsfield, such a small world, so had company for the journey :). It was really nice getting home, seeing everyone and not actually doing anything. I had the biggest lie in in the morning, did some work, and saw Alex in the evening. The next day I stocked up on food in tescos and got the train back with Kav. It was packed and so we at times resorted to sitting on the floor to do some work!

Monday was one of the longest days of my life ! 9 til 6 and it just dragged on and on. However there were elections for reps during the day, and I thought these would be pretty boring.. they really weren't! Some of the speeches were incredible in a rather different way ! I came back to Nathan's spaghetti bolognese in my flat and then went over to 37 to see the lot. Tuesday was a slightly less long day but I also had netball in the evening. However on the way home, error, we were at our station waiting for the doors to open to get off the train and it just drove off ! It turns out you have to press the open doors button! So we had to go to the next station and wait for the next train to come back.

What else has happened this week.. We had paper aeroplane competitions which got very competitive. My flatmate Ben and 37ner Chris got in the news for the protest for tuition fees( though that may have happened last week I can't remember!). It has suddenly become freezing!

Right well it's my turn to make dinner today and it's our carnage this evening, which starts at 6.30, so I reckon I'll need to start cooking soon and also need to have a tidy up round here.

Hope all's well, and see you soon(ish)

Week 3

Dear Harri,

Wow yes this week has definitely gone the quickest and it's all starting to turn to a blur ! The routine is starting to set down, and unfortunately includes a lot of nine o clock starts, which cuts down on the partying a lot. I haven't been out since last wednesday, shocking really for a uni student ! Wednesday was risa again, school girl themed though this time. On Thursday it was our day where we make a presentation for the rest of our group, which was actually a lot of fun and I got to know some of my group members better. In the evening I spent time facebook stalking with Hafsah and Jason, as Hafsah hasn't got facebook and she found stalking hilarious !

I was so thankful for Friday after a pretty long week, and Alex came up for the weekend. It was my turn to cook so we made stir fry , I'm certainly learning a lot of culinary skills here I never knew before. On Saturday disaster struck which I'm sure I'll tell you about but not on here haha! However it was still a good day , lie in until about two and then we just went to tescos for food. In the evening we watched Anchorman, which is meant to be really funny, it was quite good but think I was a bit sleepy to appreciate the jokes.

On Sunday I realised I had better do some work, and so wikipediad most of the sheets I had to do. We also went into the Bullring for a general look around and then returned to find the Flat across from us were going out for a meal so we joined them. However, the place with the £5 roast dinner was full, and so was about every other restaurant there, and so about an hour and a half later we returned without food and ordered a takeaway. We ordered four sixteen inch pizzas and so stuffed our faces with loads left.

Monday , uni again , luckily a ten o'clock start which believe me makes such a difference. In the evening we went to Nandos as Alex was leaving on the next morning. Tuesday was such a hectic day, 10 til 6 and then I went to Kav's where she made an awesome curry for me and I met some of her flat mates. Then onto Netball which is packed but I found a Beeches buddy to walk back with which is good as I didn't really want to walk back from the station in the dark.

Now I've had a half day where I have managed to do no work even though I've been here for four hours ! Productive huh

Well, hope you are having an awesome time

Week 2

Dear Harri,

I have just returned from lectures , at the earliest yet so far! From Tuesday to Friday last week we had lectures at nine, which didn't go so well seeing as there was a fresher's event almost every night. I can hardly remember what they were about, but just that it was a major effort to keep my eyes open! We also met our M groups , which is a group of 18 of us that work together on discussions and problem sort of things. They were so much better than lectures and we actually got to meet others doing the course. There's 400 of us though, so it's quite overwhelming!

The last two days have been pretty chaotic! Monday was a 9 til 6 day and then I met people from my flat and the flat across from me at Joe's Bar to go to a free salsa trial. I really enjoyed it, but I haven't decided whether to go back yet. Then on Tuesday after finishing at 3 I went back to Kav's and we tried to register at the Doctor's and go shopping but managed to get incredibly lost, and left Katie waiting on a cold stone(she didn't let us forget this :p) ! We had some iceland macaroni cheese and you'll never guess.. Angel Delight that worked! After that, we went on to the Medic's netball trials, where we played a couple of five minute matches. So by the time I got back it was around ten and everyone was just about to go out to a club called Bambu, but Hafsah wasn't feeling too great so I popped around and we watched a program called Signfield or something!

On Saturday we went on a trip to the Bullring but as measly students we just bought cookies and came back. On Sunday it was a medic's day out, which was on a riverboat. The drinking games started sober on the way over so that once we were on the boat we all knew what we were doing and so we spent most of the three hours on the boat playing these and dancing on the top deck. We then came back and went to revs! where we had been promised a buffet, however it really wasn't enough food to feed all of us so I came home and had a cold jacket potato as our microwave doesn't work too well..

So this afternoon I'm just going to take it easy, do the laundry that I haven't done yet, and maybe do a harri-style nap in the hope I might feel like going out this evening.. but we'll see.

Hope you're well
Lot's of love
